Motorola, Samsung and Sony Smartphone Debuts at the 2012 CES

The CES International trade show is known for its opening day smash hits and game-changing technologies and gadgets, and this year was no different. Featuring the most exhibitors to attend in any year, according to CES news release, the opening day saw many expected debuts from the likes of Motorola, Sony, Samsung and other well-known gadget brands. Here are some of the opening day products.

Motorola Droid 4

One device that appeared was the much-anticipated Droid 4, according to CNet at CES. Adding to Motorola’s already impressive line of Android-based Droid smartphones, this Droid is a full QWERTY with five rows that also features a 4-inch qHD touch screen, an 8-megapixel still shot camera that can also shoot 1080 p video, a 1.2 GHz dual core processor and 16 GB flash memory. Made available on the Verizon LTE network, the Droid 4 will be available “soon.”

Samsung Galaxy Note

The Samsung Note, the long-awaited “phablet” device, has finally arrived, according to a CNet at CES report. Called a “phablet” because it is big enough to be labeled a tablet PC, but it functions as a smartphone, the Note features a massive 5.3-inch touch screen, so it could even be labeled a PDA by some. Because Samsung makes it, the Note features the company’s Super AMOLED technology. Offering handwriting recognition using the S Pen technology, an 8-megapixel camera, and a 1.5GHz dual core processor, the Galaxy Note will make its debut on ATT.

Sony XPERIA Ion

According to a PC Mag report, Sony has released its newest addition to the XPERIA line, the XPERIA ion, which is one of four new smartphones available by Sony at the CES. The ion will offer a 4.6-inch HD touch screen display with a resolution of 1280 pixels by 720 pixels. The XPERIA ion will also offer users a microSD card slot, which is expandable up to 32 GB in addition to its 16 GB of internal storage, according to the report. Featuring a 1.5 GHz CPU running on Android 2.3.7, the 12-megapixel camera for taking HD video in 1080 p and the 1.3 front camera for video chat and 720 p video all make the ion a powerful device. Expected at ATT, the XPERIA ion is the very first smartphone offered by Sony on the carrier’s LTE network, according to the report.

Samsung Exhilarate

Also appearing on ATT, according to the CNet at CES report, is the Samsung Exhilarate, which features Samsung’s Super AMOLED, but a much smaller, 4-inch version instead of the Note’s massive 5.3-inch screen. Made of 80 percent post consumer recycled plastics, the Samsung Exhilarate also comes with eco friendly apps built in. As many of Samsung’s phones do, this one comes with two cameras, a full touch screen, and voice recognition among other great features. It will be available for less than $50 at ATT in the coming months, according to the report.
