A jury found the 26-year-old Tennessee woman guilty of murder Tuesday in the 2011 suffocation deaths of newborn twins who were found in her laundry basket.
The jury of seven men and five women convicted Lindsey Lowe, from the suburbs of Nashville, of murder, premeditated murder and aggravated child abuse. She was immediately sentenced to life imprisonment by the court.
Lowe, who was often emotional in court, did not show emotion after the sentencing. She was dry-eyed as she turned to family and friends who sobbed in the courtroom.
The defendant, who carried a Bible in much of the seven-day trial, said softly: “I’m fine. I love you all. He is with me”, pointing to the sky.
At trial, the jury saw a video of Lowe telling police she had given birth alone on September 12, 2011, in the bathroom of her parents’ house in a quiet cul de sac in an upper middle class neighborhood.
The bodies were not found until two days later. A family member discovered a dead baby in a laundry basket in the house in Henderson, 20 miles northeast of Nashville. When police arrived to investigate, officers found the second body in the same basket.
Lowe was engaged at the time but became pregnant from an affair with another man, jurors were told. She hid the pregnancy from her family and friends.
A detective testified that police searched the house thoroughly, but found no evidence that Lowe had made plans for the birth.Mobile video not loading? Click here to view
