Mother and newborn found in NSW

A one-day-old baby who was allegedly abducted by her mother from a NSW hospital has been found.

The woman took her newborn from Manning Base Hospital, at Taree on the mid north coast on Thursday afternoon.

Police sent out alerts after they feared the baby, who was under observation in the hospital’s special care nursery, needed urgent medical care.

Following a tip-off from a member of the public, police found the woman and her baby further north at an address in Coffs Harbour at about 9.30pm (AEDT) on Friday.

The pair have been taken to Coffs Harbour Hospital for observation but do not appear to have any serious medical issues.

Police thanked the public for their help.

Inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident are continuing, a police spokesman said.
