Most Israelis oppose raid on Iran: Poll

The poll, conducted by the Netanya Academic College, showed Monday that 52 percent of the respondents were opposed to a military attack by Israel on Iran, according to the Jerusalem Post.

Meanwhile, former Mossad chief Meir Dagan told the Institute for National Security Studies’ annual conference last week that Tel Aviv’s military action against Tehran would be counter-productive.

Dagan has repeatedly warned the Israeli government of the destructive upshots of an attack against Iran, which he described as the “dumbest idea” back in 2011.

Earlier in April, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said a unilateral Israeli attack on Iran over Iran’s nuclear energy program would “not be in anyone’s interest.”

“It’s our very strong belief, as President Obama conveyed to the Israelis, that it is not in anyone’s interest for them to take unilateral action,” she said.

The United States, Israel and some of their allies have repeatedly accused Iran of pursuing military objectives in its nuclear energy program.

Washington and Tel Aviv have time and again threatened Tehran with a military strike against its civilian nuclear facilities.

Iran argues that as a signatory to the nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty (NPT) and a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), it has the right to develop and acquire nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
