More murder charges over Quakers Hill fire

The man accused of starting the Quakers Hill nursing home fire that killed 11 people has been charged with two more counts of murder.

Three residents were killed during the blaze at the nursing home in Sydney’s west on November 18 and a further eight people died from the effects of the fire in the following weeks.

A registered nurse who worked at the home, 35-year-old Roger Dean, was arrested on the day after the blaze and subsequently charged with eight counts of murder.

On Wednesday, homicide detectives charged Dean with two more counts of murder, bringing the total to 10.

He remains in custody and is expected to face Central Local Court again on February 16.

Strike Force Westall, led by the NSW Crime Command’s Homicide Squad, is continuing to investigate the incident.
