Moon Jae-in leads exit polls in South Korea’s presidential election


nsnbc : Moon Jae-in, presidential candidate of South Korea’s liberal Minjoo Party led exit polls in the presidential by-election by a wide margin.

Moon Jae-in_South Korea_ROK_May 2017An official survey from three major broadcasters, on Tuesday evening, showed that Moon was leading by a comfortable margin.

Moon has come one step closer to becoming the 19th president of the Republic of Korea (South Korea) and with the support of about 41.4 percent of the voters.

Exit polls showed that Moon’s nearest rival, Hong Joon-pyo of the former ruling Liberty Korea Party had about 23.3 percent.

Ahn Cheol-soo of the centrist People’s Party garnered some 21.8 percent, ranking third among five major candidates.

Yoo Seong-min of the conservative Righteous Party gained 7.1 percent support, and Sim Sang-jung of the liberal Justice Party had 5.9 percent. The exit polls were conducted for 13 hours to 7 p.m. local time (1000 GMT) at 330 polling stations with about 89,000 voters. It has an estimated 0.8 percentage points in margin of error.
