The body of a woman who went missing after a boat overturned in the Whitsunday Islands has been found inside the vessel.
Police divers discovered the 31-year-old NSW woman’s body early on Wednesday evening while searching the 10-metre boat at Hamilton Island.
It had been towed there after overturning in rough seas at Turtle Bay, off Whitsunday Island, about 4.30pm (AEST) on Tuesday.
Eleven of the vessel’s 12 occupants were rescued.
Police say a post-mortem examination will help determine the cause of the death but it’s not being treated as suspicious.
Officers will also prepare a report for the coroner.
The woman was from the Sydney suburb of Ingleburn and her partner was reportedly also on the boat that overturned.
An extensive air and sea search for the woman was launched on Tuesday evening and resumed on Wednesday morning but was hampered by bad weather.
Two helicopters, three volunteer marine vessels and a light plane had searched the area, along with police divers who scoured the water where the boat overturned.
