A search will resume on Monday morning for a man missing after going for a late evening swim at North Bondi beach, in Sydney’s east.
The man, aged in his 30s, is said to have been drinking with mates and affected by alcohol when he entered the water between 8pm and 9pm (AEST) on Sunday.
He failed to return and his personal items including a wallet and shirt were found on the beach.
A Westpac Life Save Rescue Helicopter spokesman said the man probably got into difficulty while swimming and ruled out the possibility of a shark attack.
A search launched on Sunday night was called off around 10.15pm (AEST) and will resume at 6.30am (AEST) on Monday.
“Conditions there are pretty good. They’ve certainly calmed down right along the coast over the last few days and rescuers have had good visibility,” the spokesman told AAP.
The Westpac helicopter crew threw a green dye into the sea on Sunday night to check the strength and direction of the current where the man disappeared.
Police were also involved in the search.
Earlier on Sunday, two people were resuscitated by lifeguards after getting into difficulty on NSW beaches.
A 30-year-old man was revived after he and two other men got into difficultly at Corrimal beach, north of Wollongong.
At Copacabana, on the Central Coast, a surfer was dragged from the water unconscious by her friends and resuscitated by lifeguards.
