A SAUSAGE dog which was inside its owners’ car when it was stolen from a crash scene on the Gold Coast has been found unharmed.
The dachshund, named Tau, was located lying on the dashboard of the car in a Tweed heads car park around 9.30pm last night, after the owners received an anonymous tip-off.
The family pet had been missing since Saturday morning after its owners stopped to help the victims of a two-car crash at Mermaid Waters.
Des and Deidre Payne stopped at the crash about 10am before one of the drivers involved in the crash allegedly stole their 2001 Mitsubishi Magna sedan, with seven-year-old Tau inside.
The Paynes used social media site Twitter to try and track down their beloved pet, who they described as like a child to them.
Mrs Payne told ABC she received an anonymous phone call around 8pm last night from a woman telling her the location of the car.
“I asked her if the dog was in it and she said ‘I don’t know, I don’t know’,” Mrs Payne said.
Mrs Payne said her and her husband expected to find Tau “dead or half dead” but were delighted to find him wagging his tail and with a bucket of water in the car for him.
