Minor flood warning current for Tweed

A severe thunderstorm warning is also current for people in the Upper Western forecast district which is likely to bring heavy rainfall and flash flooding.

A flood warning for minor flooding remains current for the Tweed River. Rain has eased since 3pm Wednesday afternoon however further heavy rain is possible during the next 24 hours that could caused renewed flooding.

At 11:30pm Wednesday the Tweed River at Chinderah was 1.49 metres and peaking lower than expected at a minor flooding level. River levels are likely to remain above minor flood levels until noon on Thursday.

Minor flooding is continuing downstream of Murwillumbah after the moderate to major flood peak that occurred there at 6pm Wednesday evening.

Evacuation orders for residents of Fingal Head, Tumbulgum, South Murwillumbah, Condong and parts of Chinderah are still in place.

The evacuation orders apply to up to 3000 residents.

More than 550 millimetres of rain has fallen in the Tweed area over the last three days.

Richmond and Wilsons

A moderate flood warning remains in place for the Richmond and Wilsons rivers.

An average of 200 millimetres of rain has fallen over the last 3 days.

Moderate flooding is expected in Lismore and Coraki on Thursday morning.

Although no significant rain has been recorded since 4pm Wednesday, further heavy rain is forecast for the next 24 hours.

Clarence

A minor flood warning is in place for the Clarence River Valley.

Further moderate to heavy rain is forecast for the next 12 hours , which could produce some further river rises.

Brunswick

A minor to moderate flood warning remains in place for the Brunswick River Valley, with most rain reported at Main Arm.

The levels of the Brunswick River at Mullumbimby peaked at 3.96 metres at 6.30pm Wednesday evening causing moderate flooding.

At Billinudgel the level of Marshalls Creek peaked at at 3.35 metres at 5.45pm this Wednesday with moderate flooding.

No significant rain has been recorded in the Brunswick valley since 4.30 Wednesday afternoon but further rain could lead to river rises.
