TEHRAN (FNA)- Tehran has signed 2 contracts with Rome to promote and strengthen bilateral cooperation in the aviation industry, Transport Minister Abbas Akhoundi announced, adding that Italy is also due to build railway networks in Iran.
“We signed two major deals with Italy, with one related to the purchase of aircraft from Italy. However, we haven’t limited ourselves to buying airplanes. We also want to start developing our airports and navigation systems through joint ventures,” Akhoundi said, addressing a meeting of Iranian and Italian traders in Tehran on Tuesday.
He further said the two sides have had constructive talks on high-speed trains, adding that “an Italian firm will build the high-speed Tehran-Qom-Isfahan railway network.”
Italy which enjoys friendly relations with Iran has tried to use the opportunity of post-sanctions era to use the country’s lucrative market and cooperate in developmental projects.
Also today, the Iranian and Italian industrialists signed a contract to jointly invest in construction of a factory to provide strategic oil industry items.
The deal was signed on the sidelines of a joint meeting between Iranian and Italian businesses in Tehran to discuss joint ventures and cooperation in a ban-free Iran.
Accordingly, the two sides agreed to educate manpower and form petroleum research centers in Iran and the neighboring countries.
The agreement stresses partnership with renowned Iranian companies in formation of the factories.
Italian ambassador to Tehran said on Tuesday that President Hassan Rouhani’s visit to Rome was a success, adding that Italy wants to establish a regional hub of oil industry equipment through Iran’s cooperation.
“Italian firms want to have an effective presence in the oil markets of Iran and the region and to establish a kind of oil equipment hub here to gain the regional market,” Mauro Conciatori told participants of the second joint meeting of Iranian and Italian business people.
“Today, some 300 economic activists representing 200 established Italian companies are present in the second meeting of the two countries’ economic activists,” he said.
“Oil, gas, construction, and agricultural industries top the agenda of negotiations of the current meeting which is a follow-up to the previous one held on November 29-30.”
The Italian envoy added that Iran has numerous trade opportunities which can be taken through cooperation with the Italian companies.
“We are interested to be the main partner in Iran’s oil and gas industry and to secure its targets through cooperation,” the ambassador said.
