A hapless minicab driver plunged down an embankment and landed on top of a parked car during a botched three-point turn.

The driver was attempting the manoeuvre in Hampstead Village, north London, when he careered down a steep grassy bank and smashed into the Volkswagen Polo in front of shocked Christmas shoppers.

And the embarrassment got worse for the unnamed man after he was trapped inside his precariously balanced Kia for an hour before he was rescued and taken to hospital.

Karel Asiyo returned from buying chocolates for Hanukkah to find her car badly damaged and glass covering the front seat.

Mrs Asiyo, from St John’s Wood, north London, said: ‘I went to the shops for 10 minutes and this is what I came back to.

‘It is lucky no one was in the car because it is covered in glass.’

The mother-of-one added: ‘I wish I had stuck to my usual parking place now.’

Jane Hood, who works at nearby Whistles clothes shop, called for an ambulance after hearing the crash.

She said: ‘He must have put his foot on the wrong pedal and overshot the fence.

‘They should put a wall up to stop that happening again. There is only a small fence there and it is quite an easy thing to do because it is a terribly steep road.’

The driver was treated for minor injuries and shock after the crash last Thursday.

I bet the Kia driver still says it’s not his fault, and tries to claim on the VW driver’s insurance

Don’t kill that story DM please. Tell us a bit more about a minicab driver.

Has the DM embraced political correctness now? Else why is the nationality of the minicab driver not being revealed?

He must be crazy. The road he tried to do a 3 point turn in is a very narrow one-way street. What on earth was he on?

Fortunate the Polo was there to break his fall!

I lived round the corrner for many years, and know the road well, and the road outside Greenhill. The cause of this accident is stupidity. Nothing more , nothing less.

When asked by police what he had hit, the driver replied “sounds like a Golf”!
