You don’t have to be Professor X or Yoda to control the Board of Imagination with your mind. This futuristic skateboard by Chaotic Moon Labs can read your brain waves and take you to where you want to go, even if you’re not a mutant or a Jedi.
Chaotic Moon Labs originally created a motion-control skateboard equipped with Microsoft Kinect that can turn your hand into a steering wheel. People loved the aptly-named Board of Awesomeness so much that it eventually broke down after being taken for numerous test drives (including the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show in January). Instead of rebuilding it, they decided to enhance and redesign it to become the even more amazing invention known as the Board of Imagination
Unlike its predecessor that uses Kinect motion controls, the Board of Imagination an Emotiv EPOC headset that’s connected through a Samsung Windows tablet. Emotiv EPOC is a PC gaming accessory that you can use to play games with your brain. To control the skateboard, you only need to wear the headset, pick a spot ahead of you, and visualize the speed (up to 32 mph) that suits you best. A program on the tablet is responsible for picking up your brain waves and translating it into commands the skateboard follows.
Chaos Moon Labs’ designers didn’t mention if and when they’re bringing the Board of Imagination to market, but we sure hope they do — after they install some safety features on it, to rein in our wild imaginations.
