A British tourist holidaying in Africa has been stung to death by a swarm of bees.

Mick Bryan, 61, and his 43-year-old wife Jacqueline were attacked at a campsite in Tanzania.

The couple, from Ramsey in Cambridgeshire, were about to have lunch when the swarm descended and started to sting them.

Mrs Bryan ran for help but her mechanic husband, who has three children from a previous marriage, collapsed and died later in hospital.

A family member told the Sun: ‘They were out in the middle of nowhere getting ready to have some lunch when they heard a buzzing noise. Mick shouted to Jacqueline to run.

‘He was covered in bees. He tried to drive off but it all happened too quickly.

‘Jacqueline couldn’t get any phone reception so she had to run to the main road for help.’

Mr Bryan’s sister Louise Adam, 64, said: ‘He was a wonderful man. He’d do anything for anyone.’

A Foreign Office spokesman said: ‘We can confirm the death of a British national in Tanzania. We are in touch with the family and are offering consular assistance.’

Your pic is of a bumble bee, which doesn’t swarm

I dont know why there is a picture of a bumble bee in this article…..Oh wait yes I do, typical ropey reporting of the DM.

My sympathies with the family, this is a terrible thing to happen.

philiponfire, Gravesend 13:35 Please do not tar all ‘older generation males’ with the same brush. They may not wear make up or cover themselves in perfume but all those I have known ARE fastidious about cleanliness. The sweat factor is an interesting point though.

Very sad and scary. Neither I or my children have ever been stung so it does worry me we may be allergic without knowing. Poor man condolonces to his wife and family.

You’re lack of professionalism and observance of the truth disgusts me.

YOU’RE one to talk – YOUR lack of knowledge about the English language disgusts me!

A timely reminder perhaps as Summer is [hopefully] not too far away that just one bee or wasp sting can kill you if you are allergic to them. So if you are stung and suffer more than a stinging feeling ie. you have slight difficulty breathing or galnds under your armpits swell – do not hesitate – call an ambulance! If you know allready that you are allergic ask your GP for an `adrenalin pen`. It `stabs` a hypodermic needle into your leg and stops the most violent reaction – but still call an ambulance. If you are plagued by wasps on your patio put `waspinator` into your search engine.

Why go all the way to Tanzania for this story. A friend and I were attacked by a swarm of bees on Dartmoor. They had been moved from another location by one of our biggest honey companies and were not happy. I managed to get a lift to the nearest village and then by ambulance to hospital. The doctor said he had counted over 70 stings before he gave up, the worse part was all the buzzing in my hair, clothes, ears in fact everywhere. I looked on the bright side at least I knew I wasn’t allergic to bees stings so would never have to worry about having another one

The photo of a lovable bumble bee is highly misleading. A bumble bee is as cute and innocent as a polar bear cub. Show the photo of a WASP.
