At least three men armed with sledgehammers and chainsaws have robbed a jewellery store in Sydney’s east.
Several armed men burst into the Double Bay store about 8.40am (AEST) on Friday and stole jewellery before driving off in a stolen white BMW, police said.
Officers followed the BMW into the underground car park of a unit block in Kingsford and began a pursuit of the alleged perpetrators.
Shortly after, police said they nabbed a 39-year-old man on Anzac Parade and found two bags of jewellery nearby.
A 33-year-old man was found, with the assistance of the Dog Squad, hiding in the yard of a nearby house.
Both men were taken to Maroubra Police Station and charged with several offences, including aggravated taking and driving a motor vehicle, aggravated break and enter in company, armed robbery with an offensive weapon and participating in a criminal group.
It is alleged the two men were also involved in the break-in of a cafe in Alexandria on July 1 and a robbery of a mower business in Drummoyne on Thursday.
Both men were refused bail to appear in Parramatta Bail Court on Saturday.
Police are now looking for a third man who was allegedly involved in the jewellery store robbery and managed to evade police.
He has been described as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander in appearance, aged in his mid-30s, of slim to medium build, 175cm tall with short dark hair and wearing a grey T-shirt, black jumper and black pants.
Police urge members of the public not to approach the man if sighted but contact Triple Zero (000) immediately.
