Men In Black and other Hollywood hits take on Android

Summer is approaching and that means one thing: Hollywood blockbuster season. Things have already heated up with The Avengers debut, toppled this past weekend by Will Smith’s return in Men In Black 3. As with most big-budget action movies there’s an Android game to go along with the promotional material, and the MIB franchise was quick to launch on Google Play. And it’s not the only movie-turned-game to gain popularity this week. Piranha 3DD: The Game, like MIB 3, has hit the Google Play store prior to the movie release.

From Hollywood to Google Play…

Let’s briefly revisit Men In Black 3. The game surprised many with the inclusion of resource management requirements along with turn-based combat, adding depth and replay value you don’t often get with mobile game movie tie-ins. You start out as the new agent on the block, assigned with managing the MIG agency. You must train agents, develop weapons and gadgets and expand the agency with new rooms. Of course, you’ll have to fight aliens trying to take over New York City, and there’s a bit of time travel involved as well.

Piranha 3DD has a much bloodier plot, as you play a school of hungry piranhas, eating those silly humans swimming in your water. You can knock them off your boat if you’re really anxious for a meal, or eat other fish. Your school grows with each egg you collect, and high scores are earned through feeding frenzies. Not surprisingly, there’s upgrades available for the game, which will make your school of toothy fish even more powerful.

The final game in our line-up today is also a popular movie, though it started as a game. Final Fantasy Dimensions is one of the most anticipated games expected to debut at E3 2012, finally bringing a worthy FF title to Android. The game is expected to be an homage to older Final Fantasy titles as far as visuals are concerned, though the game could follow a new storyline. Look for a throwback to 2-D pixel graphics, with which FF fans will be familiar.
