QUEBEC – A member of the Quebec legislature has been arrested during a protest against tuition hikes in Quebec City.
Amir Khadir, the sole member for Quebec solidaire, was among protesters rounded up by police during a nighttime march in the provincial capital.
Khadir was seen in TV film surrounded by police and sitting in a city bus where police were holding the detained marchers.
He reacted calmly and sat in the bus in a jacket and tie, his hands cuffed behind his back.
Khadir was nabbed after Quebec City police declared the march illegal.
Quebec City has held regular marches in recent weeks.
Montreal has held 43 in as many days, and some them have turned violent.
The Montreal marches at their peak numbered in the thousands but barely a few hundred showed up Tuesday night as rain fell on the city.
