Meldrum off life support and talking

Music guru Molly Meldrum is off life support and has spoken his first words since a fall at his home before Christmas.

While the words were “almost random” and not in response to any questions, they are providing great hope to the loved ones and fans wishing him a speedy and full recovery.

Meldrum’s manager Mark Klemens on Monday said Molly uttered words along the lines of “I’m sore” and I’m tired” after coming out of sedation and off a ventilator machine in Melbourne’s The Alfred hospital.

“There are random words (but) they are a great sign,” Mr Klemens told AAP.

“It’s early days, but he’s heading in the right direction.”

Mr Klemens said Meldrum had said “I’m tired, I’m sore or something like that”.

“It certainly wasn’t a response to anything,” he said.

Meldrum, 65, is still in a serious but stable condition after he fractured his skull in a fall at his Richmond home while he was putting up Christmas decorations 11 days ago.

Last week the veteran TV presenter underwent surgery to repair fractures in his collarbone and ribs.
