Bubba is an adorable terrier mix with beautiful blue eyes, and he also happens to be addicted to drugs.
Officers found Bubba in a Tustin, California, motel room, when they were looking for his owner, Joshua West, who had an outstanding warrant. According to police Lieutenant Robert Wright, this is the first time they’ve ever had someone reporting that an animal under the influence. “This strikes me as pretty horrible,” Wright said.
Animal control officers were called to the scene, and later tests showed that Bubba had heroin, methamphetamine and nicotine in his system.
West was then arrested for an outstanding warrant, a parole violation, possession of drug paraphernalia, heroin and methamphetamine, and of course, animal abuse.
Veterinarian Matthew Wheaton, who has been treating Bubba for the last two months, says, “I would say looking at his video today, his prognosis is excellent. I think if he can avoid being exposed to additional drugs in the future with his new forever home, things will be perfectly fine.”
Wheaton continued, “If the dog was truly ingesting these things in relatively large quantities, I think he would probably be more than just lethargic.”
Luckily, Bubba is now in good hands and is getting back to be a normal dog. He already has 15 people who signed up to adopt him!
