‘Media hype targeting Iran-Kenya ties’

“The identities of the individuals are not yet known to us yet and the Iranian Embassy in Nairobi is trying to obtain information and consular access,” he said.

“It is not possible to comment on the matter unless the identities of the detainees are known but given the very good and friendly ties between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Kenya, it seems that certain foreign media seek to harm mutual consolidated and respectful relations by spreading and disseminating such information and accusations,” he added.

Mehmanparast’s remarks came in reaction to the media hype about the recent arrests of two Iranian nationals in Kenya.

Kenyan police said they arrested one of the Iranians last Wednesday and the other on Thursday to interrogate them on alleged involvement in terrorism activities.

Kenyan officials have not identified the two.
