Are you in favor of labeling Monsanto’s Roundup-drenched genetically modified crops? Perhaps you’re concerned after realizing that it was in fact Monsanto’s Roundup herbicide that was linked to cancer by the World Health Organization?
According to the mainstream media, you must be ignorant.
That’s the message in a new piece by USA Today, which I was really shocked to see when scanning the headlines today. Not only does the article say that anyone who is concerned about GMOs is akin to a conspiracy theorist that believes the moon landing was staged and that Elvis is still alive, but it goes on to blame concern over Monsanto’s creations as ‘ignorance and hysteria.’
As the nameless ‘Editorial Board’ writes in the piece entitled ‘GMO food bans pander to ignorance’ states:
“Americans love conspiracy theories: The 1969 moon landing actually occurred on a Hollywood set. Fluoride in drinking water was a communist plot. Paul McCartney is dead. Elvis is alive…
Burrito chain Chipotle is the latest, following General Mills’ decision to take GMO ingredients out of plain Cheerios last year. The companies say they’re doing the right thing for consumers. What they’re really doing is validating ignorance and hysteria.”
Because, you know, Monsanto is an amazing company that would never hurt us, right? It’s not like they worked with the United States Defense Department to create Agent Orange, the chemical warfare weapon used in Vietnam (under the guise of an herbicide) that led to several million Vietnamese children developing detrimental diseases and birth defects.
And that’s not even getting into the wicked history of Roundup and its rampant pervasiveness. But back to the USA Today piece.
It really upsets me when I have to call out an article in the media for bashing intellectual thinkers. I do truly wish we could have a synergistic relationship between some of the larger news outlets and the independent media, as it would ultimately lead to significant changes.
Obviously, however, it continues to be up to the independent media and its readers to actually make changes. The reality is that over 90% are in favor of GMO labeling in the U.S. alone, and countless millions continue to spread the word about Monsanto’s many attacks on the fabric of humanity.
The public has spoken: the age of Monsanto is over.
