Following a widespread national campaign seeking expressions of interest for Board Members for 2021, Cedric Geffen, President of March of the Living Australia (MOTL), has announced the new organisation’s new Board members.
Cedric Geffen said: ”We are thrilled to welcome the new members to the MOTL Board. We are extremely excited to be joined by highly experienced professionals in areas including strategy, governance, finance, fundraising, marketing and community engagement, in both the commercial and corporate worlds as well as the not-for-profit community sector.
The past year has presented challenges but also opportunities for MOTL to heighten awareness of the organisation’s mission to combat intolerance, raise awareness of the Holocaust and its lessons, as well as to celebrate the achievements of Israel and acknowledge the challenges facing it.” Geffen commented. ”In the absence of the physical March, the Board have spent the past year strengthening its internal operations and driving momentum across its strategic initiatives, as well as implementing virtual community engagement and events such as the recent highly successful Kristallnacht ‘Let There Be Light’ commemoration. The Board have done a phenomenal job in elevating the organisation to new heights, and with the aspirational goals that we have set ourselves to expand our reach, we decided to expand, complement and strengthen the skills, knowledge and diversity of the current Board.”
The heightened community awareness and engagement that MOTL achieved throughout the year despite the physical March not taking place, resulting in an overwhelming volume of high calibre individuals expressing their interest in joining the Board. Geffen noted: ”This is a testament to the positioning that MOTL has achieved across the community and the understanding of the importance of our cause.”
Geffen has been President of MOTL Australia since 2011 and has been instrumental in continuing to grow March of the Living Australia with a growing emphasis on the Adult and Young Adult sectors and a strong focus on reaching out to the non-Jewish sector as well. As MOTL Australia moves forward into 2021 with an expanded and enhanced Board, Geffen is excited about the ongoing development and aspirational goals it has for ongoing and new programs, community outreach, fundraising, and educational and branding initiatives. “We look forward to taking MOTL to the next level, and to increasing the number of participants in our unique Poland and Israel program, to unprecedented heights,” he says. “March of the Living is a journey for a life-time, taking people where history books can’t.”
