A man who stopped to help people in a multi-vehicle crash has been killed by a passing vehicle in Sydney’s west, police believe.
Emergency services were called to the Hume Highway at Warwick Farm just before 8.30pm (AEST) on Saturday after four vehicles collided in the north and southbound lanes, police said.
It is believed a man, aged in his 40s, stopped to offer the people involved in the crash help, before being struck by another vehicle.
When emergency services arrived on the scene they found him on the road with serious injuries.
He died at the scene.
All northbound lanes of the highway near Liverpool Street were closed following the accident, NSW Transport said.
Due to the severity of the accident, the highway is expected to remain closed for several hours with motorists advised to use alternative routes.
Police said they were investigating the crash and have asked for anyone who witnessed it to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
