STUNNED residents called the police after watching a ute swerve across the road with the passenger hanging out the window grabbing beers from an esky in the ute’s tray.
Queensland police nabbed the 30-year-old driver with an alleged blood alcohol reading more than four times the legal limit – 0.282 per cent – on Benaraby Rd at Wurdong heights, near Gladstone, after multiple complaints just after 5pm yesterday.
The Tannum Sands man was charged with driving under the influence of liquor and for driving unlicensed.
His passenger, age unknown, was charged for not wearing a seatbelt and for having limbs protruding outside the vehicle.
Police said the passenger had climbed out the window to access an esky filled with grog from the ute’s tray.
Both men are due to appear in Gladstone Magistrates Court on January 23.
