A pedestrian is fighting for his life after being hit by a car in inner Melbourne.
He was the second pedestrian to be injured in the suburb of Balaclava in less than six hours, emergency services said.
Paramedics attended Brighton Road at 11.30pm (AEDT) on Thursday to tend to the man who was hit while crossing the road.
He suffered a serious head injury, leg injuries and possible internal injuries and was taken to The Alfred hospital in a critical condition.
Earlier a man, 39, broke his leg when he was run over by a four-wheel drive in Nelson Street during a hit-run collision.
Police are seeking witnesses to the incident and are asking the driver to come forward.
Investigators have been told the victim was on a footpath in Nelson Street when he saw a car travelling the wrong way on the one-way street just before 5pm.
Police believe the victim approached the driver of the dark-coloured Mercedes SUV and the pair exchanged words about his driving.
The driver then allegedly accelerated and drove into the man, before continuing along Nelson Street, towards Inkerman Street.
The vehicle failed to stop at the scene.
The Balaclava man was taken to The Alfred hospital.
Anyone with information is urged to contact crime stoppers.
