Man extradited from SA over NSW murder

A man has been extradited from South Australia over the murder of a man in NSW in October.

On the afternoon on October 4, police were called to a flat in the Newcastle suburb of Waratah after neighbours became concerned for the occupant’s welfare.

Inside they found the body of 62-year-old Dennis Griffin.

Detectives formed Strike Force Mepunga to investigate the death.

Last Thursday, South Australian Police arrested a 48-year-old man at a hotel in Mount Gambier.

An extradition order was granted at Mount Gambier Magistrates Court later that day in relation to a NSW arrest warrant for the murder of Mr Griffin.

The 48-year-old man arrived in Sydney on Wednesday evening.

He has been taken to Mascot Police Station where he will be charged with one count of murder.

He is expected to appear in a Sydney court on Thursday.
