Man doing charity bike ride across Canada has bike stolen in Winnipeg

But he’s not giving up!

Anas Cheema, a 22 years old economics student at the University of Victoria, decided to dedicate his summer to charity. His plan is to cycle across Canada (a longer bike ride than cycling across any other country except for Russia) and raise funds for SOS Children’s Villages, an NGO that has been “protecting the interests and rights of children since 1949“.

Unfortunately, Cheema’s hit a problem when he got to Winnipeg (the largest city of Manitoba, about halfway through the country). He wrote this message on his facebook page:

I got my bike token here from winnipeg almost an hour ago. I am completely speechless. All my stuff is gone including all bank cards, mobile phone, camera, everything.. All i am gonna say is i am not gonna give up. I wanna continue my bike ride and I will fundraise with even more rigour and energy. No one can stop me. I will fundraise to get. New bike and get on the road as soon as possible. Please help me to continue my bike ride.

Please donate here. I believe in good.

His story was picked up by the media in Canada (Global News, CBC, CTV, Winnipeg Sun, Winnipeg Free Press), and hopefully this bad luck can be turned into something good because of the extra attention going to his charity efforts (“when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade”).

If you want to help, his donation page is here.

Here some videos of Anas talking about his trip:
