A TRADITIONAL Aboriginal payback ritual is thought to be behind the death of a 24-year-old man in a remote outback community in Western Australia.
Detectives were last night interviewing two men from the remote community of Kiwirrkurra in the Gibson Desert over the man’s death, after his body was found with stab wounds on Wednesday, The Australian reports.
According to the paper, police were told the man was being punished over the apparent suicide of his 22-year-old girlfriend, who was found hanged just hours earlier.
One former Kiwirrkurra resident said paybacks were common in the community, but until now nobody had died.
“Payback happens a lot and it’s terrible,” the source said.
