A man has been charged with using a fire extinguisher to douse the eternal flame at Melbourne’s Shrine of Remembrance.
Police allege the 36-year-old Yarraville man extinguished the flame on May 25.
He has been charged with theft, criminal damage and a number of other offences under the shrine regulations, including behaving in an offensive manner.
He has been released on bail to appear before the Melbourne Magistrates Court on September 19.
