A man has been charged by NSW police after a 24-year-old man was shot in the chest during a home invasion near Newcastle.
Police say a number of people forced their way into a house on Ferndale Street in Tighes Hill at about 5.20pm (AEST) on Thursday.
The two occupants were assaulted during the home invasion – one shot in the chest and the other sustained minor head injuries.
After stealing a motorbike the attackers fled.
Police arrested a 27-year-old man in Tighes Hill just after 7am (AEST) on Friday and charged him with aggravated break and enter and discharging a firearm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Police raided the man’s home and found a Yamaha motorcycle they allege was stolen during the home invasion.
The man was refused bail and is to appear at Newcastle Local Court on Saturday.
