A 37-year-old man allegedly enticed a nine-year-old boy into his house by promising to show him his pet lizards before locking him inside for the night and indecently assaulting him.
The boy was riding a skateboard with friends just after 3.30pm on Saturday in Denning Street, The Entrance, in NSW Central Coast, the same street as the police station, when he was allegedly approached by the 36-year-old man who convinced him to go to his home.
“The man enticed the boy to his home by promising to show him his two pet lizards,” Tuggerah Lakes Local Area Command duty officer Inspector Chris Welfare said.
Once inside the man allegedly locked the doors and indecently assaulted him throughout the night, the Central Coast Express Advocate reported.
The boy’s mother called police about 9.30pm, after searching for the boy in a nearby park just a few hundred metres from the police station, after he failed to return home by his 6pm curfew.
Just before 8am yesterday the boy left the man’s home and was spotted by relatives who were out searching for him.
The man, who had allegedly been following the child, was taken to The Entrance police station where he was arrested by detectives from the Child Abuse Squad.
He was charged with taking/detaining a person with intent to obtain advantage and indecently assaulting a person under the age of 16 years and will appear in Wyong Local Court later this morning.
