Did you know that releasing helium balloons can hurt the environment?
One romantic guy was arrested for releasing heart-shaped helium balloons while with his girlfriend.
Anthony Brasfield, 40, launched a dozen heart-shaped balloons in the sky over Dania Beach, Florida, with his girlfriend Shaquina Baxter.
Brasfield and Baxter, were in the parking lot of a Motel 6, when he released the balloons and watched them float on Sunday morning.
His girlfriend appreciated the romantic gesture, but Florida Highway Patrol were not happy. Instead, officers arrested him on charges of an environmental crime. Brasfield was charged with polluting to harm humans, animals, plants and more under the Florida Air and Water Pollution Control Act.
Shockingly, this little known law has been used many times in the past few years.
Between 2008 and 2012, 21 people have been arrested under the environmental crime statute. Releasing helium balloons is a third-degree felony and punishable by up to five years in prison, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
