UPDATE 9.47am: A MAN killed in a collision at Cobram overnight had been involved in a police pursuit just minutes before the crash.
Police attempted to intercept a car driving on Racecourse Road about 9.55pm but the driver sped off.
Police pursued the car for a short time but terminated the pursuit when the driver failed to stop and reached excessive
speeds.
A short time later police were called to a crash on Racecourse Road where a car had crashed into a tree.
The driver and only occupant, a 19-year-old Berrigan man, died at the scene.
Major Collision Investigation Unit will investigate the crash, which will be overseen by the Ethical Standards Department.

police should not have chased him at all on that road, all locals no where the road leads to, its a short narrow road, that turns to dirt has a slight bend and lots of trees before a narrow cattle bridge entrance to the bush, i wonder what the security gaurd at the cobram abs heard and saw, police have a job to do thats no doubt, but they chased him to his death, i wonder if it was the local cop everyone loves to hate
