Javad Karimi Qoddousi noted that Iranian lawmakers will invite Salehi to the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee and will sign a motion to ask questions from him about the executions on the Majlis floor.
“This will be certainly the first step to be taken by the ninth Majlis’ National Security and Foreign Policy Committee and I will raise this issue in the first meeting of the committee today,” the MP, who is a member of the committee, told Mehr News Agency on Tuesday.
Karimi Qoddousi stated that the lawmakers will also invite the foreign minister to the next meeting of the committee in order to hear his comprehensive report on the preventive measures taken by the Islamic Republic of Iran in this regard.
“Protecting the dignity of Iranian pilgrims and travelers across the world should be the approach of [Iran’s] foreign policy,” he added.
The lawmaker also stated that in the coming days Iran’s media and public opinion should stay focused on the execution of Iranian nationals by Saudi Arabia.
“The Iranian Foreign Ministry should defend the rights of [Iranian] citizens all over the world and should especially protest against the irrational and vengeful behavior of the Al Saud regime,” he said.
On April 18, Press TV reported that Saudi officials had executed eight Iranian sailors in the eastern city of Dammam without any legal proceedings.
According to the Saudi Al-Tagheer news channel, the executions were carried out on April 15 on the order of the Saudi Interior Ministry, which has been implicated in the unrest in Syria and the violence in Iraq as well.
On May 30, the Persian-language Tabnak news website reported that Saudi officials in Dammam have executed 10 more Iranian citizens.
The website added that a total of 25 Iranians are kept at Dammam prison and 18 of them have been executed in two stages.
The prisoners are Iranian sailors who were arrested on a fishing boat in international waters 70 miles off the coast of Saudi Arabia six years ago on charges of drug possession.
