Note: Kansas City was originally the third stop on the tour, and a weekend stop at that, but we bumped it up after deciding to cancel Iowa – due to the delay on MAC’s plates. If you haven’t been keeping up with the MAC Tour, you can get caught up by watching our Week 1’s Vlog. While there, remember to subscribe to our YouTube channel, so you don’t have to worry about missing any of the most recent happenings.
With that being said, it was an exciting week for us in Kansas City and we got more than we expected – way more in week 3 (but I’ll stick to this for now). Even before our first scheduled CopBlocking night we had a multi police agency search spilled over into Kansas, just blocks from where we parked MAC. Two people were originally suspected, but the operation was called off after they failed to catch the second suspect. I was detained for unknowingly walking into the crime scene, luckily, Officer Wes Lambright was there to protect me – as you can see here. Also, during the raid Ademo was hitching a ride to follow the police around and they pulled over the car that picked him up just minutes before. It was a crazy scene, but luckily no one got hurt with all the police in the area.
We also audited the Kansas City, Kansas police headquarters and did some chalking (of course). Two officers offered salutations but other than that no other contact was made. We chalked the front entrance and the park across the street with educational messages regarding police accountability.
Friday night we headed out for our scheduled CopBlock event with our host Danny & Janel – founders of KCK CopBlock. Ademo and I planned to ask the police two questions that night, “How many people have you arrested?” and “How many cops have you arrested?” In the first stop one of the officers claims to have arrested a few cops and too many people to count, while the second officer had only arrested 55 people and 0 cops. We plan to continue this and hope to make a video highlighting the low number of police that the police arrest.
Our second stop of the night was pretty interesting as well. The police wouldn’t even talk to us, in fact, after we showed up they got out of there so fast they left the people with warrants, and a car that wouldn’t start, behind. See the entire video below if you don’t want to take my word for it.
Danny, the founder of KCK CopBlock, is also in a really awesome band named the “Phantastics.” And Ademo and I crashed a harvest party they were performing. We carried in gear like “roadies” then walked around with cameras like “press.” I guess I was pretty convincing because I was offered a job as a photographer by a lady who worked for a magazine. Of course, I don’t have a job, nor do I want one. So I declined.
We are already working on week 3, so if you want to keep up with the #MACTour. Bookmark the MAC page, subscribe to our Youtube Channel and remember “Badges Don’t Grant Extra Rights.” Stay free, keep filming the police and we’ll see you next week!
