Armed thieves have tied up and terrorised the millionaire neighbour of one of Australia’s richest men, Frank Lowy.
Property developer Salvador Paino, 83, and his 38-year-old housekeeper were threatened with a firearm and a knife when the intruders broken into the Point Piper mansion just after 2am (AEDT) on Sunday.
Mr Paino’ s cousin Angelo Paino told Seven News they had used horrifying tactics to wake him up.
“He was sleeping like that and they touch him with a knife, `Wake up, wake up’,” he told Seven News.
Inspector Chevonne (Chevonne) Greene from Rose Bay police said one of the men was armed with a shortened firearm while the other had a knife.
Wolseley Road, in Sydney’s east where the incident took place, is Australia’s most expensive slice of waterfront real estate.
Westfield founder and Football Federation Australia chairman Frank Lowy lives next door, while coalition frontbencher Malcolm Turnbull and Aussie home loans chairman John Symond live a few doors away.
Police said the intruders demanded the wealthy resident open a safe.
They then tied him up, before making off with several items.
