London police May 10 strike confirmed

According to Police Oracle website, the Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS) has confirmed the Met officers will protest the attacks on their pensions on the same day as off-duty federation members demonstrate in central London to protest the controversial law-enforcement reform package.

The PCS said there is “solid” support for the strike action among its 8,000 members who are Met staff.

“We absolutely agree with the Police Federation – what is happening in London on May 10 shows the sheer level of opposition to government cuts,” a PCS spokesman said.

“It really takes a lot to get the Police Service out on the street and protesting. You have an indication here of how strong the feelings are running. The support that we have had from Met staff on previous days has been solid,” he added.

The PCS had earlier announced the strike by its other members, but there were doubts whether the Met members will take part in the action as the law prevents officers from going on strike.
