London Fashion Week: Prophetik is Elegant and Whimsical for Fall 2012

“Princess Grace, who was courted by the noble, dandy gentleman,” played a leading role in Prophetik’s Autumn/Winter 2012 show at London Fashion Week, according to the show notes. Called “Courtly Love”, designer Jeff Garner’s collection carries noble inspiration paired with his signature themes: romance, equestrian, and Victorian. From pretty pinks and florals to vibrant bold plaids, the men’s and women’s clothing boasts a range of colors and patterns but what really unites the line are classic silhouettes.

From recycling silk fabric from vintage quilts to using plant-based dyes to create shades of peach, pink, and red, Garner’s colors ran the gamut from vintage to earthy. He also taps hemp/silk blends and introduces a new hemp wool plaid this season.

Garner’s affection for all things equestrian was evident in the capri jodhpurs–with Victorian detailing–that reigned supreme across the men’s and women’s collections.

For women, skirt lengths range from daringly short to floor-sweeping while silhouettes are feminine and Lady-like, with cinched waists, empire waists, full skirts, and fitted bodices. The classic silhouettes fit into current trends toward classic, 1950s silhouettes–Mad Men, anyone?

For men, cropped coats carried Garner’s Victorian theme. Kilts in plaid and quilted patchwork fabrics also made an appearance.

To close the show, Garner sent out a final look with a sentimental nod to family heirlooms: a dress with a fitted silk bodice and a full, floor-sweeping skirt. The silk came from a quilt that once belonged to Garner’s grandmother, the pocket watch is vintage, and the ostrich feathers were naturally shed.
