Queenslanders deserve a better explanation of an investigation into a Liberal National Party (LNP) candidate’s website, which was apparently hacked with porn, Premier Anna Bligh says.
The LNP is standing by Gold Coast candidate Mark Boothman, who claims his website set up for car enthusiasts wound up with pornography on it because it was hacked.
Had the party dumped Mr Boothman last week, it would have been left without a candidate in the seat of Albert.
But on Tuesday, website Vexnews said it had forensically examined www.darkosiris.com and found games titled “Strip or Die” and a video of a police officer almost being killed by a runaway car.
LNP leader Campbell Newman said the party would reinvestigate.
But a later statement from the party said it wouldn’t be distracted by claims from a “fringe” website.
“These matters were comprehensively dealt with by the LNP last week, and the site in question has been shut down for six years, and still is,” the statement said.
Ms Bligh says voters shouldn’t have to just take the party’s word for it.
“A one paragraph ‘We’ve investigated, don’t you worry about that’ is just not good enough,” she told reporters in Barcaldine on Wednesday.
“I’m not a computer expert, I can’t verify the allegations that were put into the public arena yesterday about this website.
“But given the serious nature of the allegations about Mr Boothman’s website, I think the LNP owe Queenslanders and the people of Albert a better explanation of what investigations they have made.”
Mr Boothman hadn’t answered any questions about the site, and no details about the investigation were made public, Ms Bligh said.
“If the LNP have investigated this, they really should be telling people a lot more detail about those investigations,” she said.
Mr Boothman was contacted for comment.
