The Liberal party in Victoria has selected tax lawyer Michael Sukkar as its candidate for the seat of Deakin at the next federal election.
Mr Sukkar, a senior associate in the tax group at the Ashurst law firm, won the ballot of about 220 delegates against six other candidates in Vermont on Saturday.
The 30-year-old will contest the seat of Deakin, in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, held by Labor MP Mike Symon since the 2007 election.
Mr Symon increased his two-party preferred margin by one percentage point to 2.41 per cent at the August 2010 election.
Mr Sukkar lives in the electorate with his wife, Anna.
The next federal election must be held by November 2013.
