Lebanon’s president Michel Sleiman has jetted into Canberra for a week-long state visit to Australia that will also see him travel to Sydney and Melbourne.
Mr Sleiman will meet with Prime Minister Julia Gillard at Parliament House on Monday when the pair will discuss a range of bilateral and international issues.
During the six-day visit, the Lebanese president will also meet with Governor-General Quentin Bryce and travel to Sydney for talks with Opposition Leader Tony Abbott, NSW Premier Barry O’Farrell and Australian-Lebanese business leaders.
Later in the week, Mr Sleiman will head south to Melbourne, where he is expected to hold talks with Victorian Premier Ted Baillieu.
In announcing the state visit last week, Ms Gillard said she and the president would reaffirm the two countries’ shared commitment to co-operation and strengthened ties.
