Rescue workers raced to the mine, which is close to China’s border with Kazakhstan, on Tuesday to free at least 21 people who are presumed to be buried under thousands of cubic meters of mud and debris, DPA reported.
The bodies of seven people who died have been recovered from the debris and mud which covered an area about 500 meters long, 60 meters wide, and up to six meters deep, local authorities said.
According to local officials, rescue teams are utilizing life detecting devices and sniffer dogs to locate 21 missing people.
During past weeks, more than 77 people have lost their lives in the capital Beijing and scores gone missing in other areas of China, as a result of floods and landslides.
