Labour Shadow Chancellor Ed Balls bolstered Labour leader’s scathing attack on Cameron, calling British Prime Minister’s austerity measures a “catastrophe for Britain,” reported Sky News.
“The reality is that Obama and the new French President Hollande are saying you’ve got to have a growth and jobs plan because without growth you won’t get the deficit down,” said Balls.
“David Cameron has been stuck with the German Chancellor Merkel saying for the last two years faster cuts will work, stick with the austerity, that’s the only way for growth,” he added.
Furthermore, writing for The Financial Times, Miliband denounced the “complacency of ‘Camerkozy’ economics,” saying Cameron has driven Britain into a double-dip recession.
Miliband also said that due to Cameron and former French President Nicolas Sarkozy’s insistence on spending cuts being the only solution to their financial woes, “faith in the ability of any politician to bring real change has ebbed away.”
Moreover, Miliband criticized Cameron for spending “his energy engaging in political positioning” while Balls dismissed “cosy photos of David Cameron and President Obama” as they took time out of the G8 summit to watch the Chelsea versus Bayern Munich match.
