Labour in Scot. independence sabotage

“The Clyde has built ships for 300 years. If Scotland leaves Britain, the Clyde and Rosyth dockyards would be in a foreign country to the Royal Navy,” Murphy told the Labour conference.

He added “the Navy have never built a warship in a foreign yard” warning the Scottish Nationalist Party, which is fighting for Scotland’s independence from Britain, that SNP could “sink” the Clyde shipbuilding industry by losing lucrative Royal Navy contracts due to independence.

“If the SNP get their way, they would have achieved what the Tories at their worst have failed to do – sinking Clyde shipbuilding,” Murphy said.

Murphy’s warning comes as his own words reveal Scotland’s independence has nothing to do with the shipbuilding prospects for the Scottish economy as Britain is already placing orders with foreign companies, though — as Murphy shrewdly put it – not for warships.

Britain signed a contract with Norway in 2011 to provide the Royal Navy with two icebreakers, which were named HMS Protector and HMS Endurance.

Meanwhile, nearly two weeks ago, Defense Equipment, Support and Technology minister Peter Luff confirmed that a contract has been signed with South Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) for building four new support tankers.

The foreign orders when considered against the government’s closure of Northern Irish shipbuilding giant, Harland and Wolff, give rise to speculation that whether London will cost Clyde is Scotland does not achieve independence.
