West Australian Labor’s approval rating has fallen below 30 per cent, a fate that has befallen the party in NSW, Queensland and Victoria, a Newspoll has found.
The fall reflects declining support for federal Labor, which has polled below 30 per cent since July.
The poll, published in The Australian newspaper on Tuesday, showed that Liberal leader Colin Barnett remained the firm favourite with support for his government strong at 48 per cent with Labor lagging at 29 per cent.
Mr Barnett remained preferred premier over opponent Eric Ripper by a comfortable 34 points.
The poll, taken between July and last month, showed two-party preferred support for the two major WA parties had not changed all year with the Liberal-National government ahead of Labor 57 to 43 per cent.
Mr Barnett’s satisfaction rating remained largely unchanged at 51 per cent as did Mr Ripper’s at 34.
However, while the number of voters dissatisfied with Mr Barnett fell by two points to 35 per cent, the number dissatisfied with Mr Ripper remained the same at 43 per cent.
