Labor promises new SES centre for Cairns

Labor has promised to help fund a new $1.7 million SES headquarters in Cairns.

Premier Anna Bligh said Labor would provide $1.25 million to the Cairns Regional Council for the facility, with the tendering process to begin this year.

Ms Bligh said the new facility would allow the SES to double its numbers in the Cairns region, boosting Queensland’s capacity to deal with natural disasters.

Liberal National Party leader Campbell Newman is campaigning in Cairns on Tuesday.
