Kings Beat Devils, 2-1, In Game 2: Jeff Carter Goal Gives Los Angeles 2-0 Lead In Stanley Cup Final (VIDEO)

Once again, three periods were not enough to separate the New Jersey Devils and Los Angeles Kings.

Just like in Game 1, the Kings found the winner in overtime. Los Angeles holds a 2-0 series lead in the 2012 Stanley Cup Final thanks to a goal by Jeff Carter, capping a frenetic fourth period. This is the Kings’ 10th straight road win in the postseason.

Entering the game with a 1-0 series lead after Anze Kopitar scored the OT winner in Game 1, the Kings went out in front in Game 2 in the first period when Drew Doughty finished a captivating slalom run, nearly skating the length of the ice, with a shot past Martin Brodeur.

Although the Devils were outshooting the Kings entering the third, they trailed, 1-0, after 40 minutes. Less than three minutes into the final scheduled period, New Jersey finally broke through. A long-range effort from Marek Zidlicky was deflected into the back of the net by Ryan Carter.

With the score level entering the final minutes of regulation, both sides pushed for the decisive tally, even as men were being pulled from the ice by the officials. After a thrilling stretch of 4-on-4 play, the game went to overtime.
