Kid Rock ’embarrassed’ to be a Republican in some ways

Is Kid Rock embarrassed to be a Republican? That is what he told Rolling Stone in a new interview posted on April 10. The rocker has incorporated some unique details into his upcoming tour with Uncle Kracker and ZZ Top, but he is frustrated by some restrictions that he blames on the Republicans. What did Kid Rock have to say?

Concert tours are big bucks for a lot of musicians, but Kid Rock took a different stance for his new tour. The musician wants concerts to be accessible to all fans, not just the wealthy ones. He worked out a plan so that every ticket for his upcoming concerts cost $20, and he reserved the front two rows for people to be hand-picked from the back of the venue. He also wanted rows two through 18 to be reserved for paperless ticketing.

However, his approach with paperless ticketing is not legal everywhere, and that is one thing that sparks Kid Rock’s embarrassment. He says that Republicans are the ones passing bills like that, and he referred to them as “dumba**es” for doing it. He said he’s even tried contacting some legislators to try to stop it.

The musician has also done things like lower the prices on the t-shirts sold at the concerts, and he’s ranted against the online ticketers that add handling fees to his ticket prices. In short, he wants concerts to be affordable, and he is doing his best to make it happen. He admits he does not know if it will all work, because of course there are others affected by the economics of it all. He says, though, that he can take a hit if needed to make it work for everyone. If it does work, he hopes other musicians will follow suit.

As for voting Republican, he says he’s “not in bed with anybody” and he doesn’t like the “hardcore views on either side.” Kid Rock says he’s more of a Libertarian than anything, but he also believes you “can’t be playing the middle.” Unlike some who insist their opinion is the only valuable opinion, he says he’s open to grabbing a beer and listening to anyone who has something different to say.

In stark contrast to many Republicans, Kid Rock says he supports abortion rights and gay marriage. When asked who he would pick in a theoretical 2016 race between Hillary Clinton and Rick Santorum he replied, “I’m not letting you snake me into that. Nice try, though.” While many may view the rocker as a stereotypical “bad boy,” to hear Kid Rock’s “embarrassment” and detailing of his political views gives many a different view into what make him tick.
