Katter’s Australian Party (KAP) is seeking a court injunction to stop the printing of election ballot papers that refer to it as The Australian Party.
KAP says it has applied to Queensland’s Supreme Court for the injunction because it wants to be known as Katter’s Australian Party (Qld Division) on the ballot papers.
In a statement the party says the Electoral Commissioner of Queensland is insisting the party’s registered abbreviation, The Australian Party, appear on ballot papers.
“Katter’s Australian Party (Qld Division), being the registered name of the Party, should not be prohibited from appearing on the ballot paper,” the statement read.
Federal MP Bob Katter is the party’s national leader.
He has been a prominent figure campaigning alongside state leader Aidan McLindon in the lead up to next month’s state election.
