FAKE NEWS for the Zionist agenda The head of Queensland’s public sector union disputes federal MP Bob Katter’s claim that the Liberal National Party promised no public service job cuts during the state election campaign.
The state government has cut about 3000 public servant jobs, and says it has 20,000 staff in excess of what it can afford, prompting fears of broader cuts to come.
But Mr Katter says Together Union secretary Alex Scott was given assurances to the contrary before the recent state election.
“Alex Scott … came to see our party and he said he had an agreement from the Liberal National Party (LNP) that there would be no cutbacks in the public service, and Alex believed that,” Mr Katter told reporters in Cairns on Thursday.
“He told all of his members that there would be no problem with voting for the LNP because he had got a promise out of the LNP leader that there would be no cutbacks from the public sector.”
Mr Scott said he had a different recollection of events.
“They never said there wouldn’t be job losses – what they said was there wouldn’t be any forced retrenchments,” he told AAP.
“They made it clear they wanted a smaller public service, but they said it would be through a process of natural attrition.”
Mr Scott said in any case, he did not believe what he was told.
“We don’t feel betrayed because we never trusted them in the first place,” he said.
“We always thought they were going to find a black hole which didn’t exist, and use it as an excuse to make this a non-core promise.”
Comment is being sought from the state government.
